Why TZ?
Since 1999, TutoringZone has been working hard to make certain that their students receive the best possible service while achieving their academic goals. We apply this very same philosophy to our AP program. As such, we feel there are several reasons why nearly anyone would want this service.
For students:As a student, you know how tough AP classes can sometimes be. They can be challenging, time-consuming, and even boring at times. But, consider the following joke:
Q: What’s the only thing more boring that taking an AP class?
A: Taking it TWICE!
Not to put the pressure on, but if you do not pass the AP exam given at the end of the year, then you don’t get college credit for the class. Now, all that time and effort has to be mustered again for taking this class in college. Who wants that?!
We at TutoringZone have taken the time to learn all about the subjects we tutor as well as the exams that are being taken. We use a focused strategy to make sure that you don’t waste your time on things that don’t matter as much, cutting down your study time dramatically. We also know what AP graders look for, ensuring that these components are in your responses to AP questions. Heck, we have plenty of students who say that we almost do the studying for them!
For parents:As a parent of an AP student, you certainly know how tough AP classes can sometimes be on your children. They can be challenging and time-consuming. However, these classes are meant to further educate your children and better prepare them for college. In addition, these classes are actually meant to substitute for college credit. However, they can only substitute for college credit if your child passes the rigorous AP exam given at the end of the year.
This is where we come in. We at TutoringZone have taken the time to learn all about the subjects we tutor as well as the exams that are being taken. We use a focused strategy to make sure that your child doesn’t waste his/her time on things that don’t matter as much, cutting down their study time dramatically. We also know what AP graders look for, ensuring that these components are their responses to AP questions. In short, we put your child on the right path towards passing the AP exam.
How does this benefit you as a parent? There are several answers to this question:
First, college credit. If your son/daughter passes this AP exam (achieving a score of 3 or more on a 5-point scale), they almost always will get college credit for that class. For example, let’s look at a few popular schools. The average cost of a single college class (assuming Florida residency) is shown in the table below:
| School | Cost |
|---|---|
University of Florida |
$350 |
Duke University |
$1015 |
NYU (New York University) |
$3170 |
Now, multiply these figures by the number of AP classes that your son/daughter intends to take. The savings through taking AP classes become very large very quickly. We at TutoringZone want to make sure that you acquire said savings.
Second, scholarships. There are several scholarships available for students who want to go to college (as any guidance counselor will tell you). However, taking AP classes and passing the exams opens up a world of different scholarships for which your child can apply.
Third, pride. It is quite the anomaly for a high school student to take college level courses. Even more impressive is when he or she passes an extremely rigorous exam. For several of the AP subject areas, the passing rate is little over half. We have seen first hand the pride instilled in those students who pass such a rigorous exam and we find that for both them and us, it is endlessly fulfilling.
For teachers: As a teacher of an AP class, you certainly know how tough AP classes can be (probably better than anyone else!). They can be challenging and time-consuming, especially considering that you are teaching college material to high school students! We also know that teachers are an irreplaceable component to a child’s education.
So, why should your students need an AP review? Or, to put it bluntly, what can we do that you cannot? The short answer is… NOTHING! By no stretch of the imagination do we believe that we can replace the entire year of thorough teaching that you provide as a teacher. Moreover, we are not at all attempting to replace the wonderful job that teachers do. Rather, we are simply looking to supplement everything that you as a teacher have already done. Also, we are firm believers that sometimes, it takes the perspective of someone else to help something sink in. We would simply like to offer that little extra perspective.
In addition, the state of Florida likes to reward you for your services as well by providing bonuses and incentives for those teachers whose students pass at a higher rate. If nothing else, we believe that we would assist you in acquiring the very incentives that you deserve.
For principals/administrators:
As an administrator, you certainly know how valuable AP grades can be. With all the negative press associated with poor educational standards in states such as Florida, it is important that your school reflect the very best that it can offer. More students passing the AP exam not only makes your school look better, but can actually bring in more funds to the school.
Also, for schools that would like several of their students to attend our sessions, we offer special group rates. Please email us at ap@tutoringzone.com for more information.
